A beach ceremony and a hilltop reception can combine the island's shoreline with the practical infrastructure of an established venue.

Why a hilltop reception works

A hilltop restaurant or event venue can provide:

The official site does not publish a fixed event capacity, package price, buyout policy, or list of inclusions. Those items must come from a written proposal for the specific date. National Park wedding permits

Weddings within Virgin Islands National Park require a National Park Service special-use permit. The June 30, 2026 permit page states that applicants should allow at least ten business days after the completed application and $50 nonrefundable application fee are received. Large or complex projects can require additional processing time and monitoring costs.

A permit does not convert a public beach into an automatically exclusive private venue. The park evaluates resource impact, public access, and conflicts with other uses.

Virgin Islands marriage-license requirements

The Superior Court of the Virgin Islands currently publishes these core requirements:

• Government-issued identification
• $100 nonrefundable marriage-application fee
• $100 marriage-license fee
• Certified divorce decrees for previously divorced applicants
• Certified death certificates for widowed applicants
• Eight-day public posting period
• Return of the completed license within ten days after the ceremony

The court states that no blood test or physical examination is required. Judicial ceremonies carry separate published fees.

Where guests stay matters too

A wedding weekend usually spreads guests across several accommodations, and the area they choose affects how smoothly the whole event runs.

• Cruz Bay. Convenient for guests without a rental vehicle, and close to the ferry for anyone flying in for just the weekend.
• Great Cruz Bay or Chocolate Hole. Resort or villa stays with more room for a larger wedding party, generally requiring a rental vehicle or coordinated transportation.
• Mid-island, near Centerline Road. Puts guests closer to a venue like Drifters and reduces the drive on wedding day itself.

Transportation matters as much as the view

Most St. John taxis charge by passenger and destination rather than by meter. Group transportation should be arranged for both the ceremony-to-reception transfer and the return at the end of the event.

For a hilltop reception, establish:

• The number of vehicles allowed on-site
• Overflow-parking arrangements
• Shuttle or safari-taxi capacity
• Pickup staging
• The final return schedule
• A sober transportation plan

• Whether the alternate layout changes the price or capacity
